The 1st and 2nd years of the engineering degree course may be done in the EURINSA/ASINSA international section, whose aim is to prepare students for the international context of their future profession.
The programme is identical to the conventional syllabus, however course modules benefit from certain specific features designed to help students to improve their level in two or three languages and acquire a high-level scientific culture and a better knowledge of Europe.
There are two groups of 24 students in each academic year; half from France and half from other countries in Europe and Asia.
The International Section offers some major advantages:
-
Two compulsory languages
-
Global political economy. French and foreign students work in pairs within small groups.
-
Learning support in the science disciplines
-
An in-company or linguistic training course in a non-French-speaking country for French nationals and in a French-speaking country for non-French nationals
-
Cultural activities
Upon completion of their first year, international section students who chose German as their language option may carry out their second year of studies at one of INSA-Rennes' German partner-universities: Technische Universitätde Dresden, Technische Universitätde Hamburg-Harburg, Rheinisch-Westfalische, Technische Hochschule Aachen. As all teaching is done in German, acceptance depends on the applicant's DSH-based level (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für die Hochschulen) as accredited at the end of first year.
Successful applicants will have proven their ability in science subjects and in German. Furthermore, before departure, each student selects one of the six speciality options for his/her third year of studies.
During their year in Germany, students remain registered at INSA-Rennes and must comply with the training contract drawn up with the STPI department (1st cycle) and the department of specialisation (2nd cycle) which the student wishes to join in 3rd year. An ERASMUS study-visit-abroad grant may be obtainable. Finally, upon completion of the study period and depending on results obtained, the student will return to INSA-Rennes and join his/her chosen department.
