Upon completion of the Research Master programme, students may consider continuing their studies towards obtaining a Doctorate.
INSA-Rennes takes an active role in the life of two doctoral schools : MATISSE and SDLM. Both of these schools comprise nationally-accredited research units and teams, who play a supervisory role, whereas the laboratories of INSA-Rennes act as veritable support teams that accompany research students throughout their doctoral training programme.
MATISSE - Mathematics, Computer science, Signal processing, Electronics and Telecommunications
The MATISSE doctoral school includes doctoral students registered with INSA-Rennes, the University of Rennes 1 and ENST Brittany, who are preparing a thesis in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Control Systems, Robotics, Signal and Image Processing, Electronics and Micro-electronics, Opto-electronics and Microwaves.

SDLM - Materials Science
The SDM doctoral school includes students who are preparing their thesis in either Physics, Earth sciences and Astronomy, Chemistry, Social science and Humanities, Engineering Sciences, or Information and Communication sciences and technologies. All are registered with one of the following establishments INSA-Rennes, the University of Rennes 1, ENSCR, INRA-ENSAR - Rennes and the Bruz division of ENS Cachan
